Trump azidi kujikwaa ulimi kuelekea uchaguzi

Every year, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flock to Mecca to carry out the lesser umra pilgrimage during Ramadan -- especially during its last 10 days.
Riyadh (AFP) - Eighteen pilgrims have been injured in a stampede near Islam's holiest site, Saudi media reported on Saturday, as the kingdom continues to review safety after a deadly crush during last year's hajj.
The incident happened on Friday night near the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the Al-Riyadh newspaper said, as Muslims gathered in large numbers to mark the Night of Destiny, one of the high points of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.
All the injured were treated at the scene and none required admission to hospital, the newspaper cited a health official as saying.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flock to Mecca to carry out the lesser umra pilgrimage during Ramadan -- especially during its last 10 days.
They include the Night of Destiny, when the angel Gabriel is believed to have given the Prophet Mohammed the verses of the Koran.
The incident comes as Saudi authorities continue to unveil new safety measures for this year's hajj in September.
A crush at last year's hajj killed more than 2,000 pilgrims in the worst disaster to ever strike the annual ritual.
According to figures from foreign officials, at least 2,297 pilgrims died. Saudi Arabia issued a death toll of 769.
Newspapers reported on Friday that, among new security measures, hajj pilgrims this year will have to wear an electronic safety bracelet to store their personal information, including address and medical records.
The hajj and umra pilgrimages bring millions of Muslims to the holy places in Saudi Arabia every year.

Made In Africa:Tanzanian made helicopter to start flying the African skies soon

Tanzania has begun building its own helicopters that will be taking to the skies soon. A Tanzanian made two seater chopper is in its final stages of production and will start flying trials once it granted permission by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority reports Daily news.
Arusha Technical College, department of Mechanical and Engineering initiated the program so as to build affordable choppers for Tanzanians to ease the country’s transport woes.
“We are complementing President Magufuli’s industrialisation policy in pioneering the first locally made helicopters that will be available to ordinary residents at affordable prices,” explained the man behind the ATC chopper project, Engineer Abdi Mjema
Initiated two months ago with the aim of using the chopper for surveillance, rescue and agricultural purposes but reframed for people transportation.
Now at 50 percent completion the pioneer air craft has a chassis as well as airframe ready and also the popular gasoline powered VW flat engine board that is also used to make the “Robinson” helicopters in the US, but the craft will be ready in three weeks’ time.
“Once we get the aviation authority approval, we shall complete the most sensitive part of the helicopter mounting the main rotor” said the engineer
Arusha city in the northern region of Tanzania is looking to make history as the first region to fly the first-ever Tanzanian manufactured helicopter in July 2016.
With a flying ceiling of 400 to begin with, due to the high altitude in the mountainous region and a non-pressurised cabin, the Prototype ATC helicopter will change things for the East African nation. The engineers will increase the flying height to reach the normal commercial chopper 8,000 feet above sea level heights with more complete and accomplished models.
According to the college, it can produce up to 20 choppers in a year when the project gets a nod from higher authorities.
“The Tanzania-made helicopters will fly before 2020  and specifically 2018, which is two years from now,” said Engineer Mjema

TANZANIA International Container Terminal (TICTS) envisages extending wings to neighbouring Rwanda, hardly a month after winning global respect as one of Africa’s most improved ports.

TICTS Executive Officer Paul Wallace

The US Journal of Commerce, which collects data on 140,000 port calls at 750 of the world’s container terminals, has acknowledged TICTS as one of the most improved ports in Africa.
“Everyone at the nation’s largest port is delighted that our efforts have been appreciated by such an authoritative body,” TICTS Chief Executive Officer Paul Wallace said in Dar es Salam over the weekend.
“It is truly an industry achievement,” Mr Wallace said of the recognition, adding: “This is just the start… the port is now poised for huge expansion over the coming few years.” He however attributed the great achievement to the commitment of the company’s valued employees and trust from TICTS parent company, Hutchison Port Holdings, which operate 48 ports in 25 countries.
The company has over the past few years invested over 210bn/- to generate 1.35trn/- in the Tanzanian economy through wharfage, royalties and rent.
According to Mr Wallace, the container handling firm is scheduled to open the Kigali office on July 1, 2016, to generate greater volumes through the port of Dar es Salaam. Already, the company has trained 16 young Tanzanian leaders who have just graduated in a year-long intensive management programme.
Kazi Services’ management experts Zuhura Muro and Petronella Mwasandube, with other formidable guest speakers, shared their wealth of experience in mentoring the young, gifted and potential future leaders of the East African port industry.
“The course blended management practices, self-learning, teamwork and financial analysis with on the job project management skills,” said Mr Wallace who sponsored the programme.
He expressed excitement over the profound talents in his organisation, saying “With such committed and motivated employees, the future of the port will be in capable hands beyond my years in Tanzania.”
Mr Wallace said the company was determined to build for the future in all areas of expanding business, citing an investment of over 40bn/- in new quay cranes, which arrive in November.
He particularly thanked the ports’ loyal customers, partners and Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA), with whom the company works closely to improve performance.

Dar es Salaam: Where Every Place Is A Dumping Ground

Heaps of garbage line the banks of the Msimbazi River where it meets Morogoro Road near Jangwani in Dar es Salaam.
Heaps of garbage line the banks of the Msimbazi River where it meets Morogoro Road near Jangwani in Dar es Salaam.

MAYBE you have been traveling in the city by bus. You really do no not see much of a city traveling that way. Still, even by bus you are likely to see heaps of waste somewhere by the roadside.

In some homes loads of waste are buried everywhere in the homestead till the whole compound is pregnant with it. In Dar, however, you really see the dirty side of the city when you travel by train.
The commuter trains, which began meandering their paths in the city, a couple of years ago, pass mostly in some of its darkest corners. And in Dar es Salaam, the darker or the remotest the part of the city the bigger the more attractive it is to be a dump.
As the train runs in these parts of the city, you observe rubbish you would never imagine existed in such a city - the nation’s capital. It appears the rail is a big dump of the city where everybody can dump all sorts of waste as they will. All along the railway line from the city centre to its well out of town terminus, dumps dot the way.
The common type of waste in the heaps is the thin, black plastic bag. This kind of waste and the other kind, a bag known to most city inhabitants as Rambo, fill the dumps. Residents of the city use Rambo and other plastic bags in various ways, which is the hardest kind of pollutant to eliminate. I once saw a black plastic bag lying by the roadside. It looked rather stuffed, but so harmless.
I gave it a kick to send it farther away from the road. But I had kicked it a little too hard and punctured it. My foot sank into a mass of human waste- faeces. The black plastic bag has become a mobile toilet for all loafers!
It also serves well girls who want to hide their aborted fetus and carries a couple of other blacker evils with it. Plastic bottle too are quite a bother, but serve many a young men as a urinary. Heaps of waste harbouring it compound harms that come with it.
If I remember right, earlier this year the government announced that by June this year it should not be seen. June has come and is running to its end, but the thin plastic bags and other types particularly the black one are still there. An expert report says: “Plastic bags cause many minor and major issues in geographical terms. The most general issue with plastic bags is the amount of waste produced.
Many plastic bags end up on streets and are aesthetically displeasing. “Even when disposed of properly, they take many years to decompose and break down, generating large amounts of garbage over long periods of time. If not disposed of properly the bags can pollute waterways, clog sewers and have been found in oceans affecting the habitat of animals and marine creatures.”
Whereas the continual presence of plastic bags is a product of mere disobedience of the law and the state’s order, there are many factors contributing to lack of quick waste disposal.
One of them and the basic one at that is poor planning of the city. Indeed it is lack of planning! It is said that only 15 per cent of the Dar city is planned. The rest remains in haphazard construction of houses.
The result is lack of passage for vehicles to waste collection points, which consequently remain inaccessible and cause waste compilation. The narrow roads, which are resultant of poor planning or lack of it for that matter, cause congestion of traffic and delay a quick removal of waste. Waste trucks cannot make many trips necessary for complete clearance of waste heaps, hence long presence of waste at the collection centres.
But the city’s poor planning despite its inconveniences, is benefitting some people. Indeed it is a good number of them, who profit from the lack of passage ways where there ought to be a road.
Since many people cannot reach their houses by road, they cannot as a result keep their cars at home. Instead they park them overnight at some centre for a pay. Prayer premises and such places as the ruling party office premises have made the most of this poor planning of the city. These institutions have built enclosures in their premises for cars safekeeping at night.
For one vehicle they charge 5,000 to 10,000/- even more a night, depending on the size of the vehicle. However, heaps of waste anywhere in the country tells a lot about our performance and responsibility.
Earlier this year the government made yet another call to producers and users of plastic bags to change or desist from making or using them. Will they? In the spotlight mostly are plastic bags of lightweight which, de facto, have previously been prohibited. Their producers were ordered to stop producing them and sellers to stop their sales, to no avail.
Our country seems to be the dumping wild land for other nations. Their used cars, used shoes, old spoons, underwears, kitchenwares and hand-medown clothes are dumped here for a little price to undercut local producers. It is a business which has stagnated the growth of our industries. The government has just acted against phony phones. Once, the problem of ghost workers was surely ghostly.
The government literally has destroyed it. Our health depends largely on the purity of our environment. Species in it are a valuable natural resource. The Indian black crow has posed quite a threat there. The biggest excuse to destroy the aerial native of India has been lack of funds to buy the poison.
Basically though, corruption has been at the core of this fight. Can we succeed in the fight with Indian house crow- corvus splendens? The previous government often said it had no money to buy the deadly poison to the intelligent bird.
We expect that the fifth-phase government of Dr John Pombe Magufuli - a keen and efficient collector of taxes, has the necessary funds to buy the 3-chloro- ptoluidine hyrochloride, DRC-1339 or Starlicide a deadly poison to kill the intelligent bird and consign it to oblivion.
