Longtime David Bowie producer Tony Visconti has signed on as a judge for a new UK reality competition called Guitar Star, and in an interview promoting the show, he went on one of those stereotypical rants about how music isn’t what it used to be. Talking to The Daily Star, Visconti derided the sound of modern pop music and questioned whether Adele’s records reproduce her voice with veracity:
You turn the radio on and it’s fluff, you are listening to 90 percent computerized voices. We know Adele has a great voice but it’s even questionable if that is actually her voice or how much has been manipulated. We don’t know. There’s a sound to pop now that is so perfect it’s boring, because everything is fixed.
Adele addressed Visconti’s criticism at a recent concert, noting, “Some dickhead … tried to say that my voice was not me on record. Dude, suck my dick.” Watch footage of her response below.
